As widely expected, President-elect Obama introduced Hillary Clinton as his new Secretary of State. Also introduced were Eric Holder as Attorney General, General James Jones as National Security Adviser while Bob Gates remains as Secretary of Defense. Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano was introduced as Homeland Security Chief while Susan Rice has been named Ambassador to the United Nations. I see the Senate confirming everyone. The only appointee who might have a problem is Holder for his role in the Marc Rich pardon but if the Democrats get to 60 a stink will be raised but he will sail through. Even if Saxby Chambliss prevails tomorrow Holder could get a moderate Republican vote from someone like Arlen Specter or Olympia Snowe.
I plan to write in more detail about the Hillary appointment but in the meantime here's the headline. Unless Hillary is to Obama what George Marshall was to Harry Truman then I believe Hillary will be gone from Obama's cabinet by 2011.
