Newsweek has an article about the re-emergence of Fidel Castro in Cuba. Having recovered from his intestinal problems Fidel has reasserted his authority despite having formally relinquished it to brother Raul more than three and a half years ago. I think the article paints Raul almost like a Gorbachev figure. That I can assure you he isn't. Nonetheless, the piece clearly states the return of Fidel is not a good thing for Cuba:
But as long as Fidel is calling the shots, the Cuban economy will remain unproductive, the youth will remain restive, and relations with the U.S. will remain at an impasse....Which leaves everyone, on and off the island, pretty much where they were three and a half years ago: waiting for Fidel to die.
That I am afraid pretty much sums things up.
