Days after Zimbabwean police arrested Arthur Mutambara, MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai has been arrested along with his entourage which included the MDC's National Chairman Lovemore Moyo and its Vice-President Thokozani Khuphe. Their security personnel were also detained. No charges have been announced as of yet.
Mugabe is doing everything he can to retain power including suspending NGOs like CARE as they have been accused of campaigning for Tsvangirai. When attending last week's global food summit in Rome, Mugabe blamed Western sanctions rather than his confiscation of white owned commercial farms for Zimbabwe's dire economic situation. A top military official, Major General Martin Chedondo, instructed soldiers to leave the military if they did not support Mugabe.
Should Mugabe lose the runoff on June 27th don't expect him to abide by the results. He will not go gently into that good night.
