U.S., British Diplomats Attacked & Detained in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwean police stopped a convoy at a roadblock containing American and British diplomats travelling with several Zimbabweans investigating the political violence that has escalated since the MDC won the parliamentary elections on March 29th. One American diplomat was beaten and the rest were taken into custody, accusing them of assisting the opposition and released a shortime thereafter. Zimbabwean forces insist they were only trying to protect the diplomats from an angry mob. The only angry mob in Zimbabwe is the government. For its part, the U.S. plans to raise the incident with the UN Security Council. However, given China's past support for Zimbabwe one wonders if it will go anywhere.
