I am glad Kristen Byrne over at The American Spectator reminded us that St. Louis Cardinals legend Stan "The Man" Musial is being bestowed with the Presidential Medal of Freedom this afternoon.
Every once in a great while, President Obama gets it right. Musial befits the term icon and is a true gentleman. He should have been so honored long ago. To give you an idea of the respect in which Musial is held, Cardinals superstar Albert Pujols agreed to extend his deadline for a contract extension by twenty-four hours. Pujols might be the best player in Major League Baseball but even in St. Louis King Albert takes a back seat to The Man.
Last November, Musial turned 90. In honor of Musial please check out what I wrote about my Dad's chance encounter with The Man at the Polo Grounds in 1955.
