On the heels of Chinese anger towards the Obama Administration with regard to its announced $6 billion arms sale to Taiwan, Beijing has become red in the face with word that President Obama plans to meet with The Dalai Lama.
A Communist Party official warns that talks between President Obama and The Dalai Lama “seriously undermine the political foundation of Sino-US relations."
It is worth noting that Obama would not meet with The Dalai Lama when he visited the United States last October. A public meeting with The Dalai Lama would most certainly atone for his error. The Obama Administration's shift with regard to China might very well be the most welcome development of his Presidency. The question, however, does remain if Obama follow through. We'll see.
