After President Obama's speech at West Point last night, MSNBC's Chris Matthews chided the cadets for not showing the President sufficient warmth. Matthews then observed, "He went to maybe the enemy camp tonight to make his case."
Matthews later clarified his remarks. "Maybe earlier tonight I used the wrong phrase, 'enemy camp,' but the fact of the matter is that he went up there to a place that's obviously military."
Maybe he used the wrong phrase?
Not only did he not apologize to the cadets he bought a shovel and dug himself a deeper hole.
What does "obviously military" mean? Is Matthews saying that all cadets vote Republican? Does voting Republican make one an enemy of America?
But then again what does one expect of someone who saw nothing wrong with Fort Hood terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan contacting al Qaeda?
Still, our cadets deserve better than to be described as being part of an "enemy camp."
A public apology would be appropriate under the circumstances.
