Thoughts on Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods today issued an apology for his "transgressions" on his website.

I won't go into the sordid details. You all know them by know. If you don't then you are a better person than me.

Given that he is one of the most well known and recognized people in the world I am surprised these indiscretions didn't become public knowledge sooner. I am sure that there were people who knew about his activities but kept quiet about them. If that's the case, I'm sure it has a lot to do with the fact that Tiger has not been one to make enemies and engage in public rows. It has served him well until now.

In another era this incident might have been swept under the rug. Babe Ruth never saw a whorehouse where he didn't make himself right at home. Yet the Bambino remained a hero to millions of children. But we don't live in that world anymore.

The one thing which hasn't changed though is that money, fame and power are aphrodisiacs. If you are a man and suddenly obtain one of these things women will start to chase you. If you have all three of these things you can basically have nearly any woman you want - even if you are married to a Swedish model.

I'm not condoning Tiger's behavior. In fact, I feel sorry for Elin Nordegren and her children. But this is the world in which Tiger lives. Unless you have an unbreakable bond, the sort of bond Paul McCartney had with Linda, those temptations are never going to go away and there's a good chance they will be acted upon especially if tight jeans and a bare midriff are involved.

Sometimes life is easiest when you are all alone.
