Former professional wrestler turned politician Tony Halme has died. The cause of death is unknown. He was 47.
Halme is best known on this side of the Atlantic when he wrestled as Ludvig Borga in what was then known as the World Wrestling Federation in the early 1990s. The Borga character was an anti-American heel.
He would return to his native Finland where he appeared on that country's version of American Gladiators. Halme also had forays into boxing and MMA. With regard to MMA, Halme was the first opponent of Randy Couture.
In 2003, Halme was elected to the Finnish Parliament with the True Finns party. Halme was outspoken in favor restrictions on non-European immigration. However, his political career was shortened by substance abuse and mental health problems. These may have contributed to his early demise.
