Tonight, Republicans have gained governorships in New Jersey and Virginia.
First, Bob McDonnell defeated Creigh Deeds by nearly twenty points to become the first Republican to be elected Governor of Virginia in a dozen years.
Later in the evening, Republican Chris Christie unseated New Jersey's incumbent Democratic Governor Jon Corzine.
Naturally, the Democrats are downplaying the whole matter suggesting these setbacks have nothing to do with President Obama or his policies.
But Obama won those states handily only a year ago. Obama also campaigned extensively for both Corzine and Deeds. In an era of responsibility, surely he bears a little of it this evening.
