In his weekly address to the nation, President Obama spoke about the shooting at Fort Hood which claimed the lives of thirteen people, twelve of them soldiers.
He described the actions of Major Nidal Malik Hasan (who he did not mention by name) as a "terrible crime" rather than an act of terrorism.
Well, at least he didn't call it a domestic contingency operation.
I was struck though by this sentence:
We can't fully know what leads a man to do such a thing.
Perhaps. But when a man shouts "Allahu Akbar" and then starts shooting everyone in sight I think we have a pretty good idea of what happened.
I think President Obama has a pretty good idea of what happened but cannot and will not bring himself to admit it in public. To do so would cause him to lose face with his most fervent supporters.
After all, it was President Obama who declared last April, "We are not at war with Islam."
The President can make these declarations all he wants. It doesn't mean that Islam is not at war with us.
