According to witnesses, as Nidal Malik Hasan was in the act of committing mass murder at Fort Hood yesterday he shouted, "Allahu Akbar."
For those who don't know this means, "God is Great," in English. It is the calling card of Muslim terrorists.
Military officials are also trying to ascertain if Hasan was the author of a blog post that equated suicide bombers with a soldier who jumps on a live grenade to save the lives of fellow soldiers. Suicide bombers try to take as many people with them as possible. They are not trying to save anyone. Hasan certainly wasn't on any rescue mission yesterday. If this was his mindset then that should have a raised a red flag. He should have been subject to some sort of disciplinary action.
In fact, I think Hasan should have been discharged from the military and it appears he made efforts towards that end. If a soldier publicly expresses solidarity and sympathy with our enemies and any other individuals who would harm his fellow soldiers then there is no place for him or her in the U.S. military.
Of course, this isn't to say that would have solved the problem entirely. Hasan could have received a military discharge and then proceeded to attack civilians. Yet our military can hardly fulfill its obligations to protect us if our soldiers are in danger from amongst those within their own ranks.
