Thoughts on Sotomayor's Confirmation

In many ways, today's confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court is anti-climatic.

Her confirmation was a fait d'accompli. Whether you like President Obama or not, he can appoint whoever he wants to the bench and more likely than not that person will be a liberal as was the case with Sotomayor.

Her condescension towards white males whether in her "wise Latina" remarks and her ruling in the Ricci case are still cause for concern. However, her presence does not alter the current ideological balance on the Supreme Court.

All of which means that we pray for the continued good health of Chief Justice John Roberts, Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Anton Scalia and Anthony Kennedy. It is worth noting that Scalia and Kennedy are both 73 years old.
