Massachusetts Next Senator Won't Be a Kennedy

Well, Massachusetts next Senator won't be a Kennedy.

Today, former Congressman Joe Kennedy announced he would not make a bid for the Democratic Party nomination to succeed his uncle. He will remain with Citizens Energy, the organization he founded thirty years ago and is best known for buying oil from Hugo Chavez.

Needless to say this makes the Democratic primary wide open. Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley has already declared but look for her to have company very soon from current and former members of the Massachusetts Congressional delegation. Ed Markey, Michael Capuano and Stephen Lynch are expected to make bids as is Marty Meehan, a former Congressman who is now the President of the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

But if Curt Schilling decides to seek the Republican nomination one must wonder if Massachusetts next Senator will be a Democrat.
