I suppose President Obama has nothing better to do than to get down Chicago style in New York politics.
According to this report, New York Senator Chuck Schumer and New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez (head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee) implored President Obama to make it known to New York Congressman Steve Israel that it would be in his best interests not to challenge newly christened Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in the 2010 Democratic Primary. Gillibrand was appointed to the Senate by New York Governor David Paterson after Hillary Clinton was confirmed as Secretary of State.
Needless to say a lot of New York Democrats would prefer Obama have stayed out:
"What? You can't have a primary? It's decided in backroom deals? What if someone told Obama he couldn't have a primary and Hillary would just be the nominee? Where would he be? It's an outrage."
If this had been done to Obama you would hear the word racism screamed from Albany. What would be deemed unacceptable behavior to an African-American Democrat is perfectly acceptable behavior towards a Jewish Democrat. But it is fitting. Steve Israel isn't the only Israel Obama is hostile towards.
