Gabrielle Schoeneweis, 1971-2009. R.I.P.

Gabrielle Schoeneweis, the wife of Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Scott Schoeneweis, was found dead in her home by her eldest daughter yesterday. Foul play is not suspected. She was only 38 years old.

Scott Schoeneweis was in Miami where the Diamondbacks were playing against the Marlins when he received the news. The Diamondbacks made immediate arrangements to fly him back to Arizona.

She did a lengthy interview last October with a fellow named Jimmy Scott (which can be listened to here, here and here.) The interview was done while her husband was still with the New York Mets. She speaks about how they met on a blind date, when she knew he was the one and about the travails of a baseball wife both good and bad. O.K., she wasn't a big fan of Toronto when her husband pitched with the Blue Jays. Oakville isn't Queen Street West but speaking from personal experience spending more than three days in Toronto in one stretch tends to get me blue. So I know from where she spoke.

After listening to the interview I must say she came across as personable woman who was very devoted to her husband and children. In her addition to her eldest daughter from a previous relationship they had three children together including a newborn daughter last September. This past January they celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary.

My condolences to Scott Schoeneweis and his children.
